Welcome to Mandurah Boat School

Mandurah Boat School was opened by Greg May in 2009 delivering recreational skipper’s tickets to small groups and one-on-one training and assessment. Mandurah Boat School will assist you to obtain your Recreational Skippers Ticket as well as your V.H.F. radio license thereby qualifying you to skipper your own recreational craft as well as legalise your use of a V.H.F. radio.

As an experienced marine rescue skipper for Mandurah volunteer Water Rescue, Greg has many years’ practice on the water, having grown up on the Murray and Serpentine rivers with small boats and dinghies. Greg joined the water rescue group in 1998 completing several small boat courses and a national powerboat handling course before becoming a national powerboat handling instructor in 2002. In the same year Greg completed his course to qualify him as a commercial Coxswain, (a coxswain is the person in charge of a boat, particularly its navigation and steering), which allowed him to run TL3 boat smart courses (Recreational Skippers Ticket) for Mandurah Water Rescue. In 2006 Greg completed his certificate IV qualification in training and assessment with Yachting Australia whilst helping to run their recreational skippers ticket courses.

Greg will spend time with you as the individual, guiding you through your Recreational Skippers Ticket (RST) course, training you on your own boat as well as assisting with the theoretical and practical aspects of your exams.

On this website you will be able to find all the details needed to start your passage to qualifying for your Recreational Skippers Ticket. Please download the RST book from the website, study the booklet and read through the purple section, chapter 10 on page 90 for the practical exam information. Once you feel you are ready to book a course please contact Mandurah Boat School and we can setup an appointment for your theoretical exam. We will run a small Recreational Skippers Ticket course before you write the theoretical exam to assist and prepare you. The Recreational Skippers Ticket theoretical exam is a multiple choice assessment consisting of 40 questions of which you will be required to answer 34 correctly to pass. Once you have passed the theoretical exam we will then proceed to the practical assessment on the water.

Once we have qualified you for your Recreational Skippers Ticket we will need proof of ID as mentioned on page 8 or a WA driver’s license. If you are under 18 years of age we will require a letter of consent signed by a parent or legal guardian. Please check out pages 7 and 8 on the workbook for items that you need to provide the assessor.
